This year the European Championship takes place online. Normally, this competition is a part of the European Go Congress, but as this year there is no Congress due to COVID-19, it was decided to run the tournament online.

This year, the European Championship is formatted in an unusual way. In total there are 32 participants. There are two qualification rounds, two regular rounds, semi-finals, and finals. You can find all the details on the EC2020 webpage.

At the moment the two qualification rounds are finished. The most unexpected result so far was the victory of Lucas Neirynck 5d (Belgium) over Alexander Dinerchtein 3p (Russia). You can see a record of the game below.
