Mexico City to Host Korean Pro Tour
Due to the celebration of the 6th Mexican Go Congress in June in Mexico City, the biggest city in Latin America will be the host of a Korean Pro Tour in which two professional players from the Korean Baduk Association, Jiyun Park 5p and Jiyoung Park 1p, will visit several sites where go is being played and promoted by Mexican players.
Their schedule starts with a workshop on Saturday, June 15, when they will visit Ekoji Temple, where players gather every Saturday to play friendly games and listen to Mr Ricardo Quintero’s lectures on recent games.
Later, on Monday 17 both of them will meet with top Mexican youth players who were former students at KIBA, a very popular go dojang in Korea.
Next, on Tuesday and Wednesday they will be visiting Serapio Rendon and Pipiolo Elementary schools respectively. In both schools go is a curricular subject and many kids are introduced to the game. Both schools programs are taught by Mr Siddhartha Avila.
On Thursday 20, simul games will be given on Mexico’s National University’s UNAM Science Faculty – the school where the strongest Mexican players hail from.
And last but not least, they will participate in the 6th Mexican Go Congress which will take place on the 19th floor of the Tlatelolco Cultural Center Tower on June 22–24.
It’s worth mentioning that for this Congress, Zirui Song 1p from the American Go Association will be joining them. The three pros will give lectures and game reviews and play simultaneous games with the participants of the Open Mexican Go Championship.
